No pictures today, y'all.

Just some serious talk for an after-midnight post.  For awhile now our numbers of people actually talking have been dwindling and, frankly, unless we have someone to snark on, we just don't talk much about anything interesting.  Our comments have dropped way down and, frankly, I'm not seeing the point anymore.  So, effective 11:59PM, Friday the 2nd, I think I'll shut this place down unless someone else wants to take it over. If you want to, speak up and if everyone agrees, I'll give you the sign-in info.

With that, goodnight.  Love to you all.

April Fools!

Just popping in to say Hi.

KaytieJ said...

Damn it, Janet! (A line from a much loved movie). I do see your point, because it is a lot of work for you to maintain the site. And thank you very much for that.

However, :::insert curse words of your choice here, and dig deep because I am having a tantrum here:::

I LIKE the women here and feel COMFORTABLE enough for ONCE to let my hair loose. Dammit!

As you know, I can do snark. So...

SNARK 1: I took a brief nap and woke up to a nightmare that Palin and Pelosi were having a debate that was hogging all the media and I was the mediator! Can you imagine being in the midst of that?

Snark 2: I am sick of the protesters in Portland that are white trash, stirring up shit, just to stir up shit.

Snark 3: I am sick of moms who let their kids drive drunk and end up brain damaged. And with that an endless amount of medical resources.

Snark 4: I am sick that we still do not have true equality in this Nation. For a specific example, I cannot, as a white person, say anything negative regarding Obama without it being labeled racist. That is BS. I could care less about his color. If I say anything negative regarding him or his wife I am labeled racist. Frankly he was dumped with a deficit and two wars. He has his hands full. However, I am pissed as hell that another 1200 Oregon National Guard are going to be shipped out. It makes me sick that so many have already been deployed. But make no mistake, Obama is continuing the war.

Snark 5: With the two wars and owing China so much, I just cannot see how we are going to fund Health Care Overhaul. Since I am a tax payer, by your definition, I can only imagine the ramifications to not only my employer's reducing the amount they will cover, but also my husband's. Not only that, it will be a witch hunt by decent paid IRS employees to find those who have not signed up for medical coverage.

Snark 6: Do you realize that in the provisions of the new Health Care Overhaul, they have millions in reserve for the education of nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists? Why? Bottom line, they are cheaper than doctors. I have a huge problem with this. There is one NP I admire and the rest I don't. Big hint, next time you look at your billable hours, see how many are to the Dr. and out of that, to the NP.

Love you much, too. KaytieJ

Kristin- I am sure that it is nothing serious. She just has a cold, so it's probably sinusitis or something. Allergies run in our family, so it might be a mix of allergies and cold. Not a big deal. They just told me to bring her in and since I am not sure about the eye thing I am going to do so.

Does anyone else use Firefox? Is anyone else having issues with it crashing randomly?

Lisa said...

Hey, I was halfway up town and realized I totally forgot to wave hi to Jill! I was too happy seeing a little uproar over my post, I guess, but had to come back home to grab something so wanted to do that quickly. It's really good to see you, Jill! How are you doing? How's R.?

And heee! I'm thrilled I got a few of you. :-D

Shannon, I use it and I'm not having trouble with crashing but they sure do seem to be doing a lot of updating and that causes me to shut down and reboot. Have you updated to 9.0 (I think it is) yet?

Shannon said...

The last update it automatically did was 3.6.2 and since it did that update I have had it crash on me at least once a day and it is getting seriously frustrating.

suz said...

Hi AP and all you daisies!
I have not been able to get here much lately but my stomach dropped to the floor when I read your post, you got me.:)
Glad you are not shutting it down. Hope nobody gets nailed too bad by April fools jokes. Me? I don't participate in them b/c I don't want them played on me. I am not known for my great sense of humor. :P
Have a great day everyone.

Shannon said...

Hey suz...I dont do AF either. I do have a sense of humor but I will admit it I tend to be a bit gullible and will actually take the jokes seriously. Hell as it was I am glad I read and caught up before going with my first instinct and gave AP one more email LOL

suz said...

Hi Shannon!lol. I get a bit gullible too and then pissed off that someone is laughing at me. :P My coworker wants me to help him get his wife. She got him good last year, but I don't want to be pulled into their little war.

kristin said...

Last year on April Fool's - i took a pic that my sister had of her engagement ring and posted it on FB (as my profile pic) along with changing my status to "engaged" - I got a few people - including my sister. My other sister continuously told her to LOOK at the picture - gotta love blondes!

The pic is actually still on my FB but not as my profile pic.

Needless to say, not going to happen this year.

kristin said...

Hi Shannon/Suz/Bella/AP/et al!

I have to stop buying my sis' unborn child stuff. Every time I go some where I get him something.

This time, went to academy and bought a 3 pack of Astros onesies - too freakin' cute!

suz said...

Last year, my coworker had a guy say he bumped his head on a ladder sticking out from his work truck wanted money.(money ploy from this guy) Nothing came of it.Co workers wife has a lawyer friend call him saying he was being sued personally, how much money did he have in the bank, going to sue the company too. Why did he leave that ladder out. Guy has a serious head wound. etc. Co worker starts to get pissed, then ...April fools from the lawyer. I really did not think it was funny. Now coworker wants me to call his wife later saying he fell off a ladder..I don't think I want to be a part of it. She might want to get me back!

Angie said...

Corinne, I kind of liked the end of Ghost Writer. It made me laugh.

suz said...

Kristin, I think it would get my hackles up if someone made my family cry. No, I know it would and I would be pissed to and not be nice to them either. I am afraid I would get in their face..Not a good idea I am sure.

Robin in Montana said...

Hee, Kristin. You can always text!

The new house is very good - I love it and it feels a lot more "homey" than the other one did. Not as much storgae in the kitchen, but I guess we'll figure that out. The kids love it and have their rooms totally set up. They are gone as of this morning for the rest of the week and their Dad's wedding this weekend. We've had this herd of elk (like over 100) way out back for the past 3 or 4 days, so that's pretty cool to watch in the binoculars.

kristin said...

cool RiM!

I'm glad the kids like it!

I'm assuming you are taking the sans-kids to worship and get the house in order?

Robin in Montana said...

Kristin- you assume correctly. :-D

Angie said...

Hi back, Suz!

Welcome back, Robin! Glad to hear the move is over! Herd of elk? So freaking cool!

Corinne, without spoiling anything for anybody, I love the Ghost Writer's explanation for why Tony Blair was so deeply allied with the U.S., to his detriment. I've never understood that, and so this fictional reason is very satisfying.

Anonymous said...

Hi Suz, SW, RiM et al.!

Suz & Shannon - I hate April's fools day with a passion. I love jokes, just not April's fools day kind of jokes. (That said, I have a cynical & sarcastic sense of humor and either you love my humor or you *hate it).

RiM- Glad to hear things are falling into place. Do you love the new house?

SW- The end of Ghost Writer...Meh. I can see why you laughed, though. I was just really into the movie and waiting for something *big to happen - you know after the big reveal of Ruth's role in the whole thing. I think it was a bit anticlimatic. The rest of the movie was great, though.

kristin said...

SW- I think the movie's explanation of Tony Blair's alliance with the US was good, indeed.

I think the reason he supported the US so much, irl, was because of major economical interests. The UK & the US's economies are so intertwined, he couldn't take the risk of standing up to Bush's government without at the same time putting his country at risk for a crisis.

Pretty ironic, seeing as how things are now re:British economy.

Angie said...

Kristin, my assistant is out today, which makes it a great day!

Angie said...

Corinne, I can see thinking the ending was "meh," but then I ask myself, "What would have been a better ending," and I can't really come up with anything. So I figure a wry laugh at the ending was a nice way to end it.

Anonymous said...

SW- True...Hmmm. Now you're making me re-think my opinion ;)

Angie said...

Someone here turned me on to Smitten Kitchen, and there's a slow-cooked brisket recipe that looks to die for. Check it out.

suz said...

SW, I love smitten kitchen! There are two others I really enjoy, the kitchen sink and picky palate. They all make me hungry though!

suz said...

**Stupid question alert** Is a brisket the same as a corned beef brisket? Same cut I suppose but why is one a brisket and one corned beef brisket.

KaytieJ said...

I swear AP - Almost every.stinking.April.Fools.Day you get me. ROFLMAO! I HATE April Fool's Day!
Daisys - this is the woman who told me she believed the world was flat. She was adamant! We argued all day on it - I was spastic with the thought that she thought the world flat. And then, bam! April Fool's Day!

KaytieJ said...

Hey Robin! That is so awesome about having a herd of Elk out in your back yard!
Enjoy your new home...and your sans kids, "paint the walls" week!

KaytieJ said...

Suz - I believe it is the type of cut, usually the chest.

kristin said...

Kaytie - that's funny! Gotta love AP!

Angie said...

Suz, I've always thought "corned" beef referred to some seasoning that goes on the beef, not that corned beef was a certain cut of beef. But I'm not sure at all.

Okay, I googled and here's what Wikipedia says: Corned beef is a particular style of brine-cured beef. The "corn" in corned beef refers to the "corns" or grains of coarse salts used to cure it. The Oxford English Dictionary dates the usage of corn, meaning "small hard particle, a grain, as of sand or salt." Potassium nitrate (saltpeter) is often added to the brine to help preserve the beef's pink color.

Angie said...

Some funny "tech" April Fool's joke - that I found when I was reading up on Google's AF - Topeka:

• Electronics maker Toshiba got into the act with the TubeTop, an inflatable laptop with an internal inner tube.

• On news-sharing site Reddit, everyone is an administrator. The result was regular users banning each other and using their unlimited voting power to move stories to the top of the site. No. 1 as of this writing? "Reddit, here's a picture I just drew ... " followed by "Quick! Use your new admin powers to upvote the crap out of this puppy dog."

• Instead of latitude and longitude coordinates, smartphone users who type "Where am I?" into Google's search field get answers such as "Neptune," "Mordor" and "Entrance to Hogwarts."

• Google Maps is offering users who pan down to Street View a new option: 3-D. Of course, if you don't have a set of 3-D glasses handy, tough luck.

• Wikipedia's main page offered an interesting array of articles, from a featured piece on the cherished custom of wife-selling to a headline about how Sony had accidentally used a time machine to zap some of its customers back to 1999.

kristin said...

TP'ing the barn - classic Kaytie!

my FV has been acting up lately - when I click to claim gas or a collectible, etc - it says I can't claim my own stuff - and I'm like, it's not mine - I'm claiming someone elses - frustrating.

KaytieJ said...

That was happening to me too. I think the FV Techs are on Spring Break :-D

KaytieJ said...

KaytieJ said...

I give up. My boss just called me to come in tonight to work. I gulped down my whine, tried not to squirm and squeeked out, "OK"...she then laughed and said, "April Fool's!" Groan.
She saved it by thanking me for her Bday gift I got her, though.

Oh no Kaytie! That would have sucked - glad it was an April Fool's!

Good Lord, Ap. What is Shear Genius? Y'all are schooling me.

Taiya - Glad you got her in - sorry that it is both ears. Hopefully she will sleep better for you tonight!

LFoB - Good to see you! And start snarkin'...I used up all my snarks this morning trying to keep AP on her meds :-D

KaytieJ said...

I have not seen Survivor or Shear Genius. Hmmm...with son staying over at a friend's, I just might get TV time.

kristin said...

Kaytie -I tried out twice for Survivor. I'd love to be on that or Amazing Race.

I ate dinner outside with my little guy. It was nice - a bit chilly (since I was in a sleeveless shirt) but a change of pace. The birds were singing. We have only had one incident and a few not listenings but so far so good.

He's in the shower right now.

kristin said...

Where is everyone tonight?

Anonymous said...

I'm here. I'm kind of just float around sites. I'm looking for a deal on a pressure canner.

kristin said...

no help from me on that one Sandy!

I'm still hungry.

edamame, grapes, strawberries?

hmmmm....or lunch meat and cheese.

KaytieJ said...

Kristin - I'm here, watching the news - so depressing. Glad LM is being his sweet self - evenings are hard on the little ones. Can't wait for weather to warm up so that we can eat outside!

Sandy - what are you going to pressure cook?

KaytieJ said...

Oh..forgot to say, Kristin, WOW to auditioning for Survivor! Have not seen it, but have heard much about it. You're a brave soul wanting to be on it!

Anonymous said...

I'm looking to can green beans and corn this summer. Because they are low in acid, you need a pressure canner to do it for safety.

Anonymous said...

I'm here. No AF jokes for me today, except that I just ate way too much hummus and feel gross.

How's everyone?

kristin said...

Thanks Kaytie! On one I sent in an audition tape - on another one, went to academy and talked on tape for about 3 minutes.

I didn't make it - b/c I'm not old, I'm not a size 3 with big boobs nor am I gay ...so I'm not a big rate booster, ya know?

kristin said...

hey bella - hungry here - no AF jokes here either.

KaytieJ said...

Sandy - You are right and smart about needing the pressure canner for those. We grow sweet corn and bush beans in our garden and since I don't have a pressure canner I have been afraid to can those. Let us know if you find a deal. I love to can in the fall. My favorite is making a pear (we grow our own), ginger, apple chutney. Goes great with pork and chicken.

Anonymous said...

Kaytie, I just looked on eBay and found a couple new in boxes 23qt Presto canners anywhere from 75 to 83. That's a lot better than the $150.00 that I found elsewhere.

KaytieJ said...

Waving hello to Bella! Sigh,,,count yourself blessed for no AF jokes!

Kristin - so Survivor is a bunch of 70 year old, size 3, triple D lesbians? I LOVE it!

KaytieJ said...

Thank you Sandy! Happy Canning! I am sure we will be talking more re: canning....That is, if we can keep AP on her meds :-D

kristin said...

LMAO SW - no, it just seems like there are pretty much 3 groups they focus on - the young, sexy group; the older group; or the homosexual group - oh - and just the wild group.

I'm not happy with who went home tonight - you?

KaytieJ said...

Did I miss an SW post, Kristin? If you were talking to me, Survivor is not on yet, or I don't think it is, only a little after 7 pm here.

Anonymous said...

Just took the dog for a walk! Yeah for it still being warm at night!

kristin said...

My bad Kaytie - no - that was in reference to your comment.

My bad - I don't know what I saw. That is what I get for waking up at 5:45 this morning.

KaytieJ said...

No worries Kristin...I just did not want to presume...did too much of that today already - LOL!

Hey AP - I am watching Project Runway. I adored that bronze dress!

Lisa said...

The bronze dress was one of the prettiest dresses I've ever seen on that show!

Kay (LFoB), I'm so sorry I worried you with my joke. Now I feel a little guilty. :-/

KaytieJ said...

AP - Sigh...that dress was a dream. Made me wish, for the first time in a long time, that I could still wear something like that. Do you remember that backless, black sequined dress I used to wear? That bronze dress made me think of that, not that I ever looked like that model!

And Heidi Klum pregnant....good grief...unbelievable!

kristin said...

I used to watch Project Runway religiously - now, well it's been awhile. I miss watching it, it was fun. Maybe i'll start again.

Well ladies - I'm tired.

I'm off!

Goodnight all.

KaytieJ said...

Nite Kristin! Sweet dreams sweetie!

KaytieJ said...

Hello CK! Whoo Hoo to no school and I love the idea of martini and cheetos...enjoy! I am feeling decadent before my work stretch this weekend! Having a glass of C.S., dh coming home with sushi and son overnight at a friend's. Remote control to myself right now...total decadence!

PJ said...

Hi KatieJ - you are certainly more upscale than me, with your C.S. and sushi -

Hoity toity, some?

Karen said...

I'm SO glad that was an AF joke - I would be sad to lose my Daisy friends!~

Did my posts from the other night show up? I commented on the bunson burner post - saying I still don't have the laptop cause the stupid power cord is $99 and I spend $$ on Easter stuff for the kids, and no power cord til next week!

Megan got all her results from her tests from the hospital and they were all NEGATIVE! so....I'm going to proceed with my letter to the hospital about her treatment there last week, that nurse needs to be reprimanded and informed of how to treat a 20 year old scared patient and I hope it happens because of my letter!! stupid jerk!!

Anyone still here?

PJ said...

Sorry to post and run. Off to watch Parenthood (taped the old fashioned way) with The Husband. Back later!

KatieJ - enjoy your remote.

Lisa said...

I'm here, Karen...how is Megan feeling? And yes, I saw your posts the other night.

CK, hello! How goes it with you tonight?

Kaytie, I believe I do remember that dress. Ah, it's been many, many years since I had an occasion to wear anything like that. I sort of miss it.

Karen said...

She's feeling relieved! and has no appetite, and has had mild nausea almost every day -but has also been on doxycycline (SP?) since last thursday - she can now stop taking that since there was nothing wrong in the first place! and hopefully that will help. She's beginning to think the stomach pains might be ulcer related, or even lactose intollerance related... after the antibiotics clear her system and she feels better, she's going to try things with her foods, to see if she can control getting the pain that way.... I hope thats all that it is. But the cat scan and all the blood work and cultures and everything they did were all negative, so its not anything that they checked for - which is good!

Lisa said...

Yes, it's very good news...heck, it might have been some type of bug, too. How's your mom liking her new place?

KaytieJ said...

Karen - Absolutely report the nurse for his out of line comment/treatment AND the doctor for unprofessional conduct of announcing dx with a door open. And, if you get no response, set up a meeting with the CEO of the hospital, Medical Director and Patient Relations Directors. It may be different at your hospital, but at mine, the actions of these people would be reported and dealt with and the CEO, Medical Director and Patient Relations Directors would take it seriously.

Now - since the cultures are negative, are you relieved? Is she still having symptoms?

My mom loves her new place AP - she has a little patio - on the 11th floor - with wrought iron railings and its about 5' wide and maybe 10 or 15' long and she has been spending lots of time out there just watching the world go by - and getting lots of fresh air and loving these warmer temps! She and Patti went to her church together tonight - which made her very happy and Patti even agreed to go with her tomorrow night to the church services too - so glad that they get along!

Kaytie - I am definately going to send in my written account of what happened and the fact that all results were negative, and see what happens, but I will not just allow her to be treated that way without letting my feelings be known! Yes, I'mr relieved! and just hope that she doesn't have another "attack" like she did that night/day again, otherwise we will have to start over with the testing and see what can be causing it - she is my tough daughter...nothing makes her cry, and she was in tears over this pain. She didn't cry in labor from her pain, but this... made her cry. But since then, other than a little nausea with the antibiotics she was on, she's been feeling ok. But she's trying not to eat alot at a time, not eat anything too spicey and cut out alot of dairy... just because she isn't sure what made her sick that day!! LOL She's hoping maybe she will lose a few pounds while she's figuring this out!

CK - Martinis to me are exotic, I have only had a few and they are delicious! C.S. - what's exotic about opening a bottle and pouring :-D And CHEETOS - that is my ultimate, lip smacking goodness! Cheetos, potato chips, and butterfingers are my downfall-LOL! Enjoy Parenthood, I wish I could tape it - saw the premier and really liked it!

I hate to post and run, but I have Tay all day tomorrow and have to go shopping for groceries for Easter, and get the house cleaned - We're having all the kids/grandkids and my mom and sis and niece for Easter dinner, I'm making lasagna! and garlic bread and a big salad... not traditional but I hate ham, and also don't like spending the entire holiday cooking in the kitchen and not playing/visiting. I'll make it Saturday and just pop in the oven Sunday - they're all going to their dad's early so coming here around 4 and we'll eat at 6 - after an easter egg hunt outside!

I'll be back tomorrow... take care everyone!!

Karen, I'm glad your mom is loving her place and I envy her that balcony. Enjoy your Easter preparations!

Kaytie, you'd love the "cheetos" we found at World Market - asiago cheese and black pepper ones. Mmm!
