Damn! I can't get you tube at work!

At least we know why she really took the TV out of the house and he is only allowed to watch movies on the teeny-tiny, itty-bitty, little DVD player. ;-)

Lisa said...

Well, try from home! By the way, only the first few minutes matter since I don't think JM was ever raped by a herd of British soldiers. You can stop watching at that point. ;-)

Lisa said...

Mulie, I never thought about that connection but I bet you're right about the TV.

Maybe SD can check this website out on his way to Kenya

Well, that site *does say it's a psychological rather than a physical problem, so ...

Bye HiT!

OMG! I am in tears! We are having too much fun at the expense of the sales guy!

He has issues with birds chirping and fresh air, yet bitches when the "boss man" and co smoke in the office.

kristin said...

So JM has a new post up but mentions NOTHING about the ER trip or Maisie falling. She mentions the ultrasound and the cord, b/c Stellan has been sick and when he would get sick, it would trigger SVT, so she just wanted to make sure all was well before the big trip.

She wrote the post in the car.

manda said...

Saw that, Kristin.

I'm just gonna say this, and have at me if you want, but I'm pretty grossed out by the fact that she doesn't bathe those kids every night and lets them sleep in their (dirty) play clothes.

I'm not perfect, there may be one night a week where Harper doesn't get a bath before bed, but will have one in the morning, usually on the weekends.

It's just such an important part of the routine (to me anyway) and I believe she sleeps better and is better for it! Dinner, bath, play, bed. Clean jammies are wonderful right?

I don't know, call me judgemental, but I think it's kinda funky.

Anonymous said...

Kristin- Don't make me go read that post ;-)
Seriously though, does this woman (who claims she's almost a doctor ::wink, wink::) really think that Stellan grew an extra conduction pathway overnight after his ablation? WTF?

Robin in Montana said...

CM - I don't know, I guess I can be judgemental with you. I know I feel better when I am clean and have clean clothes on, so why wouldn't my kids, too, you know?

kristin said...

I do every other day but he does put jammies on or clean sweat pants.

manda said...

RiM, thanks. I don't want to sound like a loon or anything.

Kristin, and that makes the diffirence, right?

Seriously, I'm not nit-picking her, but I've *never* heard of anyone just letting their kids sleep in their play clothes time and time again, you know?

kristin said...

Corinne:

"Oh, and yes, thanks for your concern: Stellan is just fine! I am a neurotic mom. He has a little cold and back when he had SVT, an illness would trigger his SVT. So for the past few nights, I've put him to bed with his monitor. It's something I almost never do, but since we are leaving for such a long time and such a far way away, I really wanted the peace of mind that he has not, indeed been having SVT. He hasn't!!! But this morning when the kids were playing with my husband, Stellan still had his lead on. Yes, he slept in his clothes from yesterday. All of the kids did. We're lazy like that and often forgo pajamas."

per JM's Ultrasound and Departure post

kristin said...

Lazy b/c you are too busy blogging and tweeting and packing and not spending any damn time with your precious little ones.

manda said...

Kristin- Word.

Anonymous said...

::barf::

Seriously?! If she were a responsible mom and cared about her kids, she wouldn't be traveling the globe sans them.

I also think that children should be sleeping in their jammies and regular baths are a must. If she can't manage now, how is she going to handle a fifth child?

kristin said...

The person in charge of MWoP just said exactly what I did after she quoted what JM said about Stellan:

"She covered a ton of topics, but not who went to the ER or why. Obviously she doesn't want readers to know why she was in the ER."

manda said...

Corinne- I was thinking the same thing. She doesn't seem to have a routine in place for these kids, so I guess you might as well throw another one into the mux.

Am I crazy for being so adamant about routine? My sister has a seven month old and he still doesn't have a night time routine. I warned her, it's for his own good, but she didn't listen so I dropped the subject. Harper goes to bed every night around 7 or 7:30 and rarely wakes up, unless of course she's under the weather, and I chalk it all up to implementing a routine early on.

Gothic ʚϊɞ said...

We're lazy like that and often forgo pajamas

Who doesn't put pj's on kids? Seriously, I have never heard of that. She gets crazier by the minute. I wonder what she sleeps in. Um no actually I don't want to know.

Anonymous said...

Kristin- Wanna guess why she went to the ER?

I say one of her kids was on the dining room table, fell and hurt himself...

Robin in Montana said...

Hee. A poster commented on the "ultrasound" post that they didn't see a penis in the ultrasound because she (the poster) just *knows it's a girl. Well, yes, could be. Or maybe MckFlurry is a boy and takes after daddy.

manda said...

Kristin, but she does or she never would have mentiond the visit, so what gives?

kristin said...

" I wonder what she sleeps in. Um no actually I don't want to know. "

lmao!

Hey GB! How are you?

kristin said...

she needs material about her while in kenya - so she will do a post then, because ya know, blogging about the poverty and children suffering in Kenya just isn't JM.

kristin said...

lol @ RiM!

manda said...

Corrine, girl, I was thinking the same thing! One of those kids hurt themselves and no parent was around watching! I know we can't watch our kids 100% of the time, but it seems as though those kids are left to their own devices quite a bit. Let's not forget last summer when she told the two oldest boys to go down by the lake BY THEMSELVES! What the frick???

Robin in Montana said...

Well a Sheeple told her she's not lazy. She's pregnant, has four kids, a house to clean, and "owns a business," so therefore gets a pass on bathing/clothing the children.

Anonymous said...

CM- You're not crazy! My parents were the same way with my sis and myself. It gives children stability and marks, both of which are important.

Of course, it doesn't have to be an army-like schedule but a routine is good for kids.

Gothic ʚϊɞ said...

RIM OMG LMAO!
Hey Kristin.
Hey I am in school fulltime, does that give me a pass on my parenting responsibilities to?

Anonymous said...

RiM- The sheeple amaze me with their idiocy ;-)

kristin said...

sure it does GB!

suz said...

Getting caught up. Wow, that last post. She is such a poor example to her kids. Letting them sleep in play clothes? Now I am sure that happens on occasion, but I would bet that is the norm in her house.

suz said...

RiM, you ever go to Pioneer Woman's Tasty recipe site or whatever it is called?? She is doing a give away of a kitchen aid mixer. Didn't you want one or was that the Le Creuset you wanted? Anyway, FYI

My Sparkling Life said...

There is no excuse for not bathing your kids or putting them in pajamas. On occasion, I can see that, but all the time? Puh-lease.

suz said...

HiT, no excuse what so ever. Other than being a lazy, fat ass, lousy excuse of a mother..IMHO :p

kristin said...

No suz, tell me how you really feel? LMAO

My Sparkling Life said...

Her kids are going to be like "Pig-Pen" from Charlie Brown.

I see that poor hygiene runs in the family.

suz said...

You know, I have really held my thoughts on her, but not after her last fiasco. I wonder if she will ever truly get it. Her kids are only small once and she only has one opportunity to cherish them, and teach them good manners, hygiene, read them stories...etc. I don't have kids and I get it :)

Lindsay said...

Hey, I have four kids and a house to clean, so I guess I'll just let my kids be dirty and sleep in their clothes. FTR, my kids bathe in the a.m.'s. Helps them to wake up. But we do wear jammies.

And I will totally forget *when I take a staged picture* that my kid has a cord dangling from his chest. Just to make sure everyone knows he *might not have been cured by God after all. ::eyeroll::

Jennifer-Lynn said...

I will confess that my kids sometimes fall asleept in their clothes, and I let them stay asleep for the night, rather than waking them up and having them scream at me.

Kids also generally get a bath every other day, generally speaking, but they always wear clean clothes. If we go somewhere where they get dirty, though, of course they get baths, whether they had a bath the day before or not.

My Sparkling Life said...

She's got money to make. So the only way she can make her boring, pathetic life more interesting is to create her own drama.

kristin said...

right lindsay.

I'm a single mom and work full time - I should just let him climb on the counters and not bathe.

suz - you are so right. I truly don't think she will ever get it. I think it is a lost cause.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Asleept = asleep.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Oh, and in summer, baths every day, because of the sweat factor.

suz said...

BD, That is why I tread carefully, I understand with littles, sometimes it is easier to let them sleep. But I really feel in her house it is the norm rather than the exception.
She is hell bent on doing things her way, being a rebel (puke) she is no rebel, just stupid. And this parenting style could backfire on her big time. Off my rant, no offense to anyone here, just my observations.

Lindsay said...

Suz - I think it's just when you see a general pattern where kids are left to their own devices, that things like not bathing or being put in jammies kind of are icing on the cake.

My Sparkling Life said...

Has anybody seen this?

http://freejinger.yuku.com/topic/1294/t/MckMama-Advocates-Trying-to-Repair-Marriage-w-Child-Abuser.html

Lindsay said...

Why can people not see the forest for the trees with this woman??? ::Slapping sheeple in the forehead::

Man, I was totally in detox until the cord episode. Not even really the small penis thing bugged me. It was weird, but it didn't make my blood boil.

Anonymous said...

I can't remember where I read that, but I know I read somewhere that someone had encountered Mck at the museum and said that her children were real brats. They were misbehaving and she was just sitting there, laughing.

Lindsay said...

Perhaps that's why she didn't bring them to Colorado. Can't risk the sheeple finding out she's not *the best parent and can't make her kids mind in public.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Suz:

No offense taken. It's just that my kids HATE to wake up and the screaming that would commence into a tantrum, which would get them worked up so they WOULDN'T go back to sleep, isn't worth it. But that's not the norm; M. goes to bed at 6 and A. gets in pajamas, and into bed, at 8.

Lindsay said...

Not that I can always make my kids mind. Cuz I can't. But if they aren't, we don't stay in public.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

My kids, generally speaking, are good in public. But if we are at a playdate, or hell, at the mall, and a tantrum starts, we are outta there.

Gothic ʚϊɞ said...

My kids have fallen asleep before jammies are on, and I let them stay sleeping. Nothing worse than a screaming kid writhing around while trying to put pj's on. However, to sit there and say they rarely do jammies is beyond my comprehension.
The cord thing got me to, but it just doesn't surprise me. Nothing she does surprises me.

Lindsay said...

GB - I know - really. Why would I be surprised? And more importantly why am I letting her pull me back into the swirling vortex of Mckmama Drama. Somebody. Help. Me.

Anonymous said...

Lindsay- "And more importantly why am I letting her pull me back into the swirling vortex of Mckmama Drama. Somebody. Help. Me."

Are we changing RV's name to SD?

I wish he would get his own identity...Mckdaddy just bugs me. I know it fits with her blog theme, but come on.

Our older kids don't wear jammies at all, but did probably until they were about 6-7 yrs old. They prefer to sleep in clean clothes and I let them.

Gothic ʚϊɞ said...

Call me sick, but I get a huge kick out of all this. I got sucked into her lies and bullshit one to many times, now I sit back and laugh over her walls slowly crumbling. She is getting exaclty what she deserves, if she wants to broadcast her hubby is packing an itty bitty, thats her problem. I only feel sorry for those adorable kids. She has 4 absolute dolls, and she has no interest in them at all. So she is off on a "compassion" trip, I wish she could show some compassion and be a mother before its to late.

Kristin- I'm multi-tasking; writing a paper on the conception of time in Plato's philosophy, reading here and MWoP. (I still have some time before I have to turn in that paper but I felt inspired ;-) )

Absolutely Little Potato by Metamora.

You're my little potato, you're my little potato,
You're my little potato, they dug you up,
You come from underground!

The world is big, so big, so very big!
To you, it's new, it's new to you!

You're my little potato, you're my little potato,
You're my little potato, they dug you up,
You come from underground!

Let's talk about root crops (they dug you up),
And lamb chops (they chew on you),
And things to eat...like apples
and cheese and 'nanas and cream,
Jellies and butter,
it's late at night, I hope this little bottle helps you go to sleep!

They must have grown you wild,
you make a grown man a child,
I’ll go and play in the mud
to be with you my spud (potato).
When you came out looking red as a beet,
You had wrinkles on the bottoms of your feet!

Oh, you are so sweet potato!
You're my sweet potato,
you're my sweet potato, dug you up!
You come from underground!

You smile, a smile, a little smile!
The world is small, so small, it's very small!

You're my little potato, you're my little potato,
you're my little potato, they dug you up,
You come from underground!

It's all SW's fault.

Karen said...

Hey everyone! I'm finally getting a chance to read - I cleaned the entire house really well today, and rearranged the spare room, cleaned out closets, hung more up in the apartment that wasn't hung on the walls since we moved in 6 months ago!! and... now I'm sitting for a few waiting for Patti to come home and bring home some dinner!! Yay no cooking!

Whats new? Gonna take me FOREVER to catch up with you low life no life's and all this chattering you all have been doing without me!!!

kristin said...

So what's the word Karen - job or no job?

kristin said...

and bad b/c I picked him up from school and he wanted to go to the store. I said no, that I didn't need anything so he had a breakdown b/c he really wanted to go to the store. Then he wouldn't walk to the car so I picked him up, and he started kicking me and screaming saying he wanted to walk. All while I am carrying his papers and lunch bag. I put him down and he runs into the parking lot, where I grab him quickly, tell him loudly we don't run into the parking lot. Then put him into the car seat where he proceeds to scream at the top of his lungs and kick me. I then tell him he gets a time out and will go to his room when he gets home which makes him scream even louder saying how he doesn't want to go to his room.

I tell him tough, then he doesn't want my songs - he wants his and I turn off the radio and say no, he can't have his songs b/c he is not listening.

Yup, good times. He finally calmed down about 15 minutes after we got home.

We ate chicken tenders and mac and cheese.

Karen said...

Still waiting Kristin!! I emailed her today at 12:08 - I gave myself until noon to not contact her and wait, but I couldn't wait any more. She said she is still waiting on the paperwork to be returned to her from all the testing, but last week she told me that she wants me to start as soon as my background check came back with all the other paperwork, Said that they have to have all the paperwork back before they can hire, but its just a formality. I don't know if I believe it or not! I'm nervous cause if I don't get this job - I need to find a new one fast, my last unemployment check will be depositing next Tuesday and then I'm gonna be broke!!!

kristin said...

AP - sorry you aren't feeling well :( What are your "symptoms"?

Karen said...

Seems to be alot of sickies around lately - again. I swear its this weather, freezing cold, then in the 40's and then snow!! Right now my head is pounding but could be because I haven't eaten today, have had coffee, and then coffee and then more coffee!!!

Lisa said...

Karen, I've got my fingers crossed hard that you get this one!

Kristin, LM was on a roll, wasn't he? YOu must be exhausted.

It's just a cold feeling thing, nothing bad. Scratchy, sore-ish throat, cough starting, really tired. Is that what you've got, too?

kristin said...

No cough yet, but sore throat, eyes burning and really tired.

He's better now, but he has his moments. He is actually being silly and going around in circles!

Now we are playing dinosaurs.

Speaking of our little potato, has Sarah checked in lately?

Karen said...

Kristin and AP thank you! I'm crossing my fingers too for this one - I don't wanna start all over looking again!!

I just put some country style ribs in the crock pot with some home made bbq sauce that I just made up off the top of my head out of what I could find in the frig cause I can't find my bottle of jack daniels bbq sauce I bought a week or so ago... I hope it turns out! This is for dinner tomorrow night - Ang comes over after work, and I make dinner and we all watch Lost together!

Have you ever gone to get professional pics of the two of you together? We are going soon to get all 5 grandsons and me again, we did it last year in Feb and wanted to do it every year in a similar pose, we are a month past time to do it - but we are going in the next few weeks... I can't wait to see how they change from year to year in those type of pictures ... a mother/son pic is so cute, and your LM looks alot like you - that would be something cool to do every year!

kristin said...

Karen - I have thought about it but it gets pricey. I have done one at a studio with just him and he has gotten some done at school but none of the two of us.

We are talking of doing one with the whole family though.

Not sure if you have one near you - but their package is only 9.99 - and its quite alot of sheets, I think you are only allowed to choose one pose, but if you go with a specific pose in mind and just have them take lots of that one pose, then you just pick out the best one. Of course you can buy other poses for more money - but the girls are good about going and getting only the $9.99 package... so it doesn't get super expensive! (just an idea)

Basically things here have been pretty calm and humorous today.

JM left for Kenya today ignoring the signs from God. She had a trip to the ER for unknown reasons with one of the children last night. Maisie dislocated her elbow but Dr. JM was able to put it back in.

And in case you missed it IM has a porn and masturbation addiction because he feels his penis is small.

kristin said...

There was a lot of talk of canning and RiM and Sandy shared some tear jerker stories about canning.

We talked about small penis syndrome and the fact that IM will have to face his fears in Kenya.

SW was whiny but hilarious while sick but she shared and so now both AP and myself are coming down with something.

and I think we all agreed we felt sorry for the McKinney kids b/c there parents don't really care for them.

Did I miss anything?

Anonymous said...

Thank you both!

That small penis syndrome really takes the cake, doesn't it?

Shannon said...

Ahhhh see Kristin I missed a lot of the canning talk being responsible....yeah I know it was bad but that is what I was doing :)

kristin said...

Karen - that is where I did LM's first pics and I couldn't decide and bought a crapload. Now they have an agreement with the school, so they come there and take really cute pics - so I end up buying from them too.

I probably need to find someone to do the two of us though.

Enjoy dinner. I think I am going to go to bed early tonight. Not now but soon.

Hey, did y'all hear the earthquake in Chile knocked the Earth of its axis a bit and, as a result, our days will be shorter? Um hmm. Now I'm worrying what effect this will have on tides. Of course, I might be the only one worried about this but that's okay.

It sure is quiet. I defected to do some uninteresting work for my last observation at school tomorrow. Principal has to observe non-tenured teachers 3 times each year, and of course I try to be really prepared and do my best teaching. Including writing a VERY detailed lesson plan.

Tenure at the end of the school year - YES! After that, only one observation every three years.

I'm extremely grumpy due to being so busy with the 4th grade musical, this observation, being the technology expert (other music teacher can barely find files on her desktop), plus 3rd grade choir. Oh yeah, and all the regular teaching on top of that.

Okay, done with bitching. Martini is in front of me now, and dog has shared my Cheetos.

Remember, he is a very special baby. And his SVT is intractable.

Lisa said...

Shannon, I never knew earthquakes would cause the axis to do this, but apparently the big ones can. I'm with you, thinking we're going to be seeing a lot more of them.

CK, congratulations! I'm sorry you're grumpy but the tenure news is wonderful!

PJ said...

Grumpy again - hubby wants to watch Leno (yuck), and Sarah Palin is on, wearing a business blazer and blue jeans.

There are just so many similarities between Sarah and JM. Tacky, ignorant, inserts foot in mouth repeatedly, pompous.

PJ said...

She looks ridiculous. Get this woman a decent image consultant!!!

PJ said...

Good night - sleep well everyone.

PJ said...

She could use a frontal lobe transplant too.

Lisa said...

"Sarah Palin is on, wearing a business blazer and blue jeans."

Uh-oh. I do this. Sometimes with cowboy boots thrown into the mix.

*hides wardrobe from CK*

Muliebrity said...

AP, Lesbians with mullets can get away with that wardrobe combo.

Nilia said...

Back on....

I meant to watch just a few minutes of that clip but that was amazing, those men just made me laugh out loud. Like the women needed them for anything, pshaw!

Nilia said...

Quiet here tonight, watching that clip took a while but it was worth it. Working on some report cards and then to sleep soon, I hope.

Hope everyone's well.

Lisa said...

Mulie, I don't have a mullet, goddammit! I thought we got that resolved Awhile back. I would sell my soul to wear nothing but Ralph Lauren for the rest of my life, though. Is everything quiet around your place tonight? No bad noises outside or anything?

FT, it tickled me, too. They just looked so confused and defeated.

Nilia said...

AP: I can't believe they thought they *still had any bargaining power whatsoever, LOL! Sure, hey if you come back we'll continue to beat you and you can do all the work while we sit around and mock you and tell the white woman from Australia how stupid you all are. Okay?

Lisa said...

FT, you get to see Shortround tomorrow, no? Have fun. Send another picture and I'll post it because I know he's grown in just a few days! Actually, if anyone has any interesting picture they want up, send it on!

Deb, if you read this in time, I'm sending wishes for an easy surgery up for your daughter. When you can, please let us know how she is?

Muliebrity said...

I think it's quiet. I have the alarm set though. I had to turn the TV on just to be sure it was quiet.

Lisa said...

But, FT, tell me it didn't remind you of the MckHousehold. attitudes, colors, slings and all.

Muliebrity said...

AP, I love Ralph Lauren too, just isn't me... I love Tommy Hilfiger though.

Lisa said...

Mulie, it probably just didn't catch right and the dog pulled it loose. That stuff can unsettle you but I bet it's fine.

Shannon said...

LOL it keeps getting quiet in here so I run off to play those hidden object puzzles, then everyone is talking, then I talk and it gets all quiet, and the cycle keeps repeating....Is it because I am slacking in my low life daisy addicted duties?

Lisa said...

Yes, Shannon. Basically, you suck.
*giggles*

Can someone come beat my son, please? He's being waaaay tooooo loud. And I'm waaaay tooooo old for that shit after midnight.

Nilia said...

AP, it did, LOL!

I'm just emailing my brother now actually, this week's just bad for everybody, Shortround had a bad night, he is being supplemented with formula (alternated) to get him to pick up his weight faster and the formula they tried might have messed with him. So what with nights not good for him and nights not good for me it looks like I'll see Shortround probably Saturday. :0( I live about an hour from my brother so it takes some coordination esp on weekdays. I'm sure he'll look all different but sure, I'll update a picture.

I love RL too Mulie but it also isn't "me". I actually do wear a lot of TM, I have an outlet near me so I get good deals quite often!

Lisa said...

Hidden object puzzles? Like The Crimson Room and all? I love those!

Muliebrity said...

FT, I don't understand the whole supplementing with formula thing. What can't she just stick to breast feeding? IS she not into it?

Nilia said...

Mulie: she is. But he lost 1 lb. very quickly and so she alternates breast + formula just for now. When I had my youngest 5 weeks early, he was also a sleepy little guy, had trouble gaining weight or getting rid of his jaundice. But I pumped and bottle fed him pumped breast milk only so I could keep a record of his intake (doctor's suggestion) but it was all breast milk (well until he developed an intolerance to dairy *and soy). My guess is that formula is high-calorie right off the bat and will give him a little push, I don't know. I'm not sure how my unsolicited advice would go over, so I'm here when they ask. They are under the care of a doctor so...

Shannon said...

HAHAHA well now that I know how much I suck it is time for me to watch bad girls and then maybe my husband can be worshiped LOL

FYI he does not suffer from small penis syndrome nor an addiction to masturbation and porn :)

Shannon said...

Yes like those AP...Right now I am playign The Serpent of Isis...I am a bad kid and get a lot of games and such from IsoHunt :)

Muliebrity said...

I hear you, but I hate when the docs encourage this stuff. I can understand what they are worried since he had low (right?) blood sugar, but I'm one of those formula is the devil girls. My last one I had to change my diet to dairy, soy, egg and nut free. Amazing how the "natural" thing has to such a PIA.

Muliebrity said...

Shannon, I just can't get into role playing games. I need action!

Lisa said...

Thank you for sharing, Shannon...lol...all of it. Does he suffer from The Really Bad Thing That Cannot Be Spoken Of, though?

Shannon said...

LOL wellllll If it is something that RV suffers from I can say NO LMAO

Lisa said...

"Yes like those AP...Right now I am playign The Serpent of Isis...I am a bad kid and get a lot of games and such from IsoHunt :)"

Damn you to hell for this information.

Shannon said...

HEHEHEHE Yes I am damned I am sure.

Nilia said...

Mulie, my SIL delivered at the same hospital where I delivered both my boys and i was very surprised to hear they had told her to supplement with formula. I used to call those nurses the breast-feeding Nazis, seriously. I mean I think breast is best to but not at *any cost. I successfully breastfed my oldest to about 8 months when I returned to work, but my second ended up not tolerating breast milk, or regular formula, or soy formula. He was put on a product called Alimentum which was so expensive, thank God he was only having small amounts then since he was so young, we were later able to switch him to soy formula and then dairy. No problems since. I was only able to breastfeed him maybe 5 or 6 weeks. I was so sad. :0(

Nilia said...

::not calling Mulie a breast-feeding Nazi!::

Lisa said...

Mulie, I'm pretty well with you about formula but sometimes, it really helps. My milk didn't come in for nearly a week after Jake was born and (long story, end result) he became severely dehydrated while we both were in the hospital and we were bitching at them non-stop to give him formula initially. Now, don't even get me started on women who *choose to formula feed from the outset. Seriously, I'll get all squirmy and ugly. But I don't see what Shortround's mom is doing as being much different than me feeding my 3 week old some cereal and applesauce to go with his breastmilk. And yes, I did that.

Nilia said...

::about to make a confession::

I started feeding my oldest a little rice cereal when he was only 10 weeks old. I needed sleep, dammit, and he was always hungry.

Muliebrity said...

I had to do the diet elimination thing while I did Alimentum for 2 weeks while I pumped. He was pooping blood and still jaundiced around 4-5 weeks. I couldn't afford Alimentum long term and at almost 2, I have to have him on goat's milk. I had him on soy, but I don't really want him growing boobs or turning him gay. He can be gay of he wants, I would rather he make the choice and not evil soy milk. ;-)

Nilia said...

Mulie: I know, isn't Alimentum crazy-expensive??!! My paediatrician who we love gave me every single sample can she had. And my mom felt so sorry for me (on reduced pay mat leave, right? + new baby, new house) that she alternated with me paying for the Alimentum. It was like $100 / week I think which is so crazy considering he was barely drinking any and this was 7 years ago!

We were able to wean him off of Alimentum at maybe 7 or 8 months, to formula for a few, homogenized milk at 12 months or so. Never tried goat's milk though.

Evil soy milk, I hear you. That got such a standing ovation for so long I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me that I couldn't stand even *looking at a glass of it much less *drinking it.

Muliebrity said...

I'm not a super Nazi! I don't belong to La Leche League or anything like that. (sticks finger down her throat while gagging)

Muliebrity said...

I believe Europe has banned soy formula because it raises estrogen levels or makes babies grow a 3rd eye or something.

Nilia said...

Ah yes, La Leche League. The Nazi-nurses were *so kind to give them my number when I had my second. So when LLL repeatedly called my house asking why I was renting a pump from the hospital (to measure breastmilk intake, remember?) I'm thinking, WTH? After a few calls I told them that if they called me again I would get a restraining order against them. Pure harassment. Sorry, I did not have a good experience with LLL.

Lisa said...

*hugs FT close*

Mine would literally cry, at 3 weeks, when he smelled real food cooking. I felt awful and we started eating only when he was asleep because his cries were so pitiful. I even measured my milk for a few days to make sure he was getting enough and he technically was. My mom is the one who said to give him rice cereal. I mixed it with some breastmilk and he mmmmmmmed his way through a whole little bowl full, fed with a spoon, and was the happiest he'd been in days. A couple of days later, he inhaled a full of applesauce, too. We knew then that little as he was, he needed solids. At 8 weeks, my dad slipped him potted meat on a finger and he ate a whole can...lol. I caught them in the act and they both looked guilty. We started meats then, still along with full nursing. His pediatrician nearly shit a brick, like I cared.

Nilia said...

We get enough soy by-products (honestly so hard to keep it out of diet although I really really try) in regular food. Both my husband and I have hypothyroidism. My mom's thyroid became this huge (non-benign) tumour and she had it removed oh maybe 20 years ago. So many cases of people I know having to take Levothyroxine.

Muliebrity said...

My milk takes almost a week to come in too and my babies end up jaundiced every time. I swear I'm not leaving the hospital without a bili blanket and a stock pile of Alimentum. I still plan to Nazi-style breast feed.

Lisa said...

*He can be gay of he wants, I would rather he make the choice and not evil soy milk. ;-)*

Not even going to touch this....

Nilia said...

AP: My mom encouraged me to do it too! Never told the paed. although she was immediately suspicious. Can't remember when I started veggies and fruits and meat but I was WAY off the suggested schedule (well except for eggs and strawberries and such, I adhered to that for allergies sake). We couldn't eat with him watching us because he (well both my kids but older one was earliest) would just look at us and we could't do it. My older one was always a lean baby too but he just needed more than milk is all.

::relieved to have found a kindred spirit in AP::

Muliebrity said...

Oh, and I'm not leaving without a hospital grade breast pump.

My county has the lowest breastfeeding rate in the state, so no one will be bugging me. I'm glad this is my 3rd and I "know what I'm doing." Ha! As if.

Nilia said...

Mulie: did you save the "sunglasses"? I did I was just going thru their baby stuff recently with the renos and organizing and they are *so small and sad looking, my youngest took quite a while to get all that bilirubin out of his system.

Lisa said...

Mulie, our hospital experience would fill a book, complete with a "kidnapping" attempt that got a nurse's aide fired. It was so ugly, so awful, that the hospital and doctors wrote the entire bill off...some $75,000+ worth nearly 20 years ago.

Nilia said...

Mulie: I had an Avent handpump. It sucked. (but not enough, ba-da-bum!)

Hospital-grade pumps worth the rental price.

Muliebrity said...

I waited till 6 months and longer to introduce solids. Seeing your babies pooping blood makes you leery...

And, AP, I jest, but I still don't care to see my baby pumped full of estrogen (Not that our government agrees)

Nilia said...

AP: a kidnapping attempt??!! You grow more and more mysterious every day...

Muliebrity said...

AP, That's why we NEVER let our baby leave my husband's or my sight! They thought we were psycho, but no baby is safe from a woman with a mustache.

Nilia said...

The nurses never took our sons without asking one of us to come along. One of us had our eyes on our boys at all times while in hospital. Scary stuff, that.

Muliebrity said...

They never had to be under a bili light. My ped just kept checking their levels daily and we got through it. He said as they aged, they could tolerate the bili. I'm not play that this time. I found out last time that if I had rented the pump at the hosp, my insurance would have paid for it, but I rented it at $50 a month, plus a bunch of other charges for tubing and whatnot.

Nilia said...

Oh my, have you ladies seen the lineup for DWTS. Kate Gosselin? I have no words...

Lisa said...

"::relieved to have found a kindred spirit in AP::"

That's me, the militant Gerber feeder. I firmly believe that all babies are individuals and like individuals, they all have different needs. I have a friend who has 8 kids (she's not a nut, just Roman Catholic) and all but two were content with breastfeeding until a year or more old. Those two, though, needed solids very early on. I just have issues with women who *can breastfeed but consider it to be a choice.

Muliebrity said...

Not many people go with their babies when they "need" to take them. With #1 I left the hosp just over 24 hours and the 2nd was an emergency c-sect at 6pm, I was home by Wed afternoon and shopping/walking around Target on Thurs. Morphine and percocet are a beautiful thing.

Nilia said...

My youngest was under the bili lights, that blue light was so bright I couldn't sleep at all it just lit up the hospital room. My insurance did not cover the pump or any of the accoutrements such as tubing. It was a few bucks a day, I think between $2-$3, can't recall. I think it *should be covered.

Nilia said...

Ah yes, sweet sweet percocet...

After my c-section I limped for about a week. I have a low tolerance for pain (= big suck, whatever). I stayed 3 and 7 days (medically necessary).

Lisa said...

"AP, That's why we NEVER let our baby leave my husband's or my sight! They thought we were psycho, but no baby is safe from a woman with a mustache."

Mulie, we didn't either. This woman, at 2am and with my mom in the room with me (special permission to visit late due to her work hours and my personal issues), literally tore him out of my arms and off my breast then called security on my mom and had her forcibly removed from the hospital.

Muliebrity said...

"I just have issues with women who *can breastfeed but consider it to be a choice."

I concur.

Nilia said...

AP: Weird, what was her reason for doing that? Did she give one?

Muliebrity said...

"no baby is safe from a woman with a mustache."

Not bashing women who rock a mustache, but I have yet to see a composite drawing of a baby kidnapper, where she didn't sport a mustache.

Nilia said...

Mulie: LOL!

Okay I should've been off hours ago or something, morning's going to come too soon.

Goodnight, Mulie and AP

Muliebrity said...

Night, FT. I need to get off here too. Some smallish child had been waking earlier and earlier. So glad this quake made the days a little shorter, maybe he'll sleep long now. ;-) Yawn.

Morning ladies!
