Morning AP!

Anonymous said...

I'll be singing that one all day, LOL.

Lisa said...

'Moning, Kristin and all! How did LM do and how do you feel?

I'm leaving in a bit and won't be back until later. I figured I better slap a new post up, just in case.

kristin said...

Okay, I was watching that waiting for something strange to happen.

Is that bad?

Lisa said...

Sandy, the tune sticks with you, I'm finding out. ;-)

Good Morning AP.

kristin said...

AP - I am tired and still have a sore throat. LM woke up around 3:00 but went right back to sleep. I woke up around 5:30 and could not go back to sleep.

My cousin texted me last night to tell me my grandpa has thyroid cancer :(. He is having surgery next week (I think) and from what she said, they should be able to get it all.

My grandpa and I are a work in progress and just recently started sending letters again. My mom and sisters don't talk to him and I am afraid they might disown me if they knew I was speaking to him. I just figured he has a right to know his great grandson and he may be a grumpy old man, but he is still my grandpa.

kristin said...

Oh, and I watched Parenthood last night with the girl from Gilmore Girls - and I cried. I have a lot of thoughts all piling on top of each other and it sucks.

Deb - I hope the surgery is successful and as painless as possible.

Sarah - {{{HUGS}}} - good to see you!

Who ever asked about Tee - I think it was LFoB, she is okay and said she misses the Daisies and hopes to join us soon. I know she is in a lot of pain and she can't spend a lot of time at the computer.

Lisa said...

Kristin, you're doing the right thing with your grandpa, and I really hope he's going to be okay.

'Morning, Sandy.

kristin said...

Thanks AP!

How are you feeling? How is Jake feeling?

Got fun stuff planned for today or just errands?

Well whatever you have planned, have a good one!

Lisa said...

I'm so glad you mentioned Sarah, I completely forgot to say how glad I was to see her in the last post. Sarah, I'm awfully sorry things aren't good there between you and your husband. Feel free to ignore me, but have y'all gotten any counseling or anything?

Lisa said...

Both of us still have the sore throat thing, too. And runny noses. It's a weird combo, plus we're just super tired. Is that what yours is? SW, how are you today?

Just a ton of errands, taking Jake to see the girlfriend and then to pick up a guitar he bought. You know, like we need another instrument around here...

kristin said...

LOL AP!

No runny nose but I am congested and have the sticky boogers (like you wanted to know). I can't say if I am more tired since it seems I am in a perpetual state of tiredness but my eyes do burn, which they normally don't.

Yes, I'm hoping SW is feeling better!

Anonymous said...

Hi all!

CK- Ah yes. I forgot about Stellan's so very rare and intractable SVT. LOL. Maybe she thought he had super powers and would grow an extra pathway overnight :P

Sarah- I'm glad to hear the potato's doing well but I'm so very sorry things aren't good with the hubs :(

Deb- I hope all goes well for Lauren today!

re: breastfeeding. I was breastfed for only 3 weeks and my sister was formula-fed from the start. By choice. I still think my mom rocks and is awesome! (Although, I do plan to breastfeed when I have kids).

Anonymous said...

I'm making Eggo Waffles for breakfast. Anyone want some?

Anonymous said...

I do, Sandy!

I'm super hungry today. Ugh.

kristin said...

As for Little man - I tried my hardest to breast feed. I had nazi nurses trying to get him to breast feed. He just wouldn't. I pumped, and pumped and pumped but I just never really produced. When I got home I tried to get him to latch on also but no bueno.

After about 3 months of the pumping, I gave up. I would pump for hours and maybe get a small bottle full.

Then he has issues with formula and we kept having to switch until he would stop spitting up, after about the 3rd switch it got better.

kristin said...

sure sandy!

Anonymous said...

::passing waffles to Corinne::

I couldn't breastfeed due to medication I had to take. My oldest ended up on soy. She's almost 10, looks like she's almost 15, and has her period. If I could go back in time, there would be alot that I would have changed.

Anonymous said...

::passing waffles to Kristin::

Anonymous said...

Soy formulas are not allowed in Belgium so my parents fed us dairy formula.

I understand the benefits of breastfeeding (and I do hope I'll be able to breastfeed when I have children) but I also think no parents should be forced to go one route or the other. Formula-fed children can be perfectly as healthy as breastfed babies.

Now, soy formula is something with which I have issues because of the phyto-estrogen. However, there are things that are far worse than soy formula. Like bottles containing bisphenol-A (BPA). It has been proven to cause many issues such as micro-penis, breast development in boys and early puberty in girls.
BPA can be avoided using certain brands of bottles (AVENT- in Europe - is one that makes BPA-free bottles) and glass bottles (which my parents used because in '89 and '91 plastic bottles were not common).

Robin in Montana said...

Good morning, everyone!

Deb - I hope things go smooth with Lauren today!

Kristin - I hope you aren't getting sick, and I hope your Grandpa comes through his surgery well. I think you have the right attitude about keeping in touch with him.

No thanks to the waffles. :::feeling all superior because I actually dragged my ass out of bed at 5:00 and went to the gym and then ate a 'healthy breakfast'(eyeroll)::::

Sarah - Good about Potato, sorry about your marriage problems. No fun, I know.

I was fed with soy formula. I have boobs, but nto big ones. :-) I breastfed Cami a year, but by the time Katie was 3 months old she was literrally putting her elbow up against me and pushing away and refused to nurse. She also had rice cereal wwaaaayyyy before it was "okayed".

And darn it, I meant to tape Parenthood last night. It was good, then? Just emotional?

No kids tonight, and grilled ribeyes and asparagus and baked potatoes are on the menu. So much for my self-righteous gym-induced eating. Heh.

kristin said...

Yeah for you RiM!

i was going to go to the gym yesterday but my sis had to go to Sam's.

It is a tense day here at the office and I'm sure the shit will hit the fan in the upcoming days/weeks!

Good times!

kristin said...

My random fact of the day from Igoogle:

The average cat sleeps about 2/3 of the day

Angie said...

Morning everybody! Robin, I recorded Parenthood so am interesting in hearing if it is worth a watch. I do love Lauren Graham.

AP, I'm fascinated by your story about Jake almost being kidnapped! How awful! And the hospital must have really effed something up if they were willing to write off a $75K bill!

Sarah, thanks for checking in. I too am glad Potato is doing well and sorry your marriage is going through a rough patch. I've never been married, but from watching everybody else's marriages, it seems incredibly difficult.

I'm feeling a bit better today. And a bit less whiney. I almost stayed home but realized the guilt wouldn't be worth the extra rest.

Did anybody see the story on the Today Show this morning about kids' bath toys? It was freaky! Apparently the toys kids play with in the bathtub are harboring all kinds of icky bacteria. I never would have worried about that. All that soapy water; you'd think they were clean!

Angie said...

Deb, I'm also thinking about Lauren today. Hope everything goes great!

kristin said...

SW - It was interesting - but I think it is trying to copy brothers and sisters with the whole family thing.

It was okay but after my cousin texted me, I half watched but I was in tears by the end.

Lindsay said...

Good morning!

Deb - Sending you and Lauren good thoughts today :)

My kids were all formula fed. 100%. And I made the choice before they were born. When I had Chloe, I thought maybe I should try BF. I did one time and realized it just wasn't for me. My two oldest never have had an ear infection, and my youngest son had one at 4. My daughter has never had one. And they are all trememdously smart - although my MIL says, "Imagine how smart they would have been if you'd BF'd". To which I say "FU".

I think whatever makes you happy and relaxed as a parent is the way to go, IMHO. A happy mama is a happy baby.

Kristin - sorry about your grandpa - but they sound confident they can get the cancer, right? I think you'll be so glad you've reconnected. I didn't get a chance with one of my grandmothers until the month before she passed. It makes me regretful. Life is too short.

Anonymous said...

Hi SW & RiM!

RiM- Going to the gym at 5 am? I am impressed. Good for you!

SW- Glad to hear you're feeling better!

kristin said...

Lindsay - from what my cousin says, yes. I e-mailed my aunt to try to get more details. My uncle and other cousin are down in Florida with him right now. I wish I could afford to go but it ain't happening.

I was also going to say, LM has been very healthy up until recently and has only had one ear infection and it was mild and I didn't even know, he just had other symptoms and the ped told me.

I too think LM is very smart. I am amazed at things he can remember. A triangle has 3 sides, a stop sign is an octagon and has 8 sides, and an op-a-tus has 8 legs. lol I haven't gotten into hexagon, etc yet.

Anonymous said...

Hi Lindsay!

BF'ing making kids smarter is a specious argument to use in favor of BF'ing. No serious medical journal has ever published an article saying that.

Kristin- I'm sorry about your grandpa :( (I don't know if it'll reassure you but the most common type of thyroid cancer, if caught early on , is very treatable. Admittedly, I have no idea what type he has but I do hope he'll be okay!)

kristin said...

Thanks Corinne!

My cousin sounded very hopeful in her texts (can you sound hopeful via text?).

So hopefully it was caught early and the surgery will be successful. Hopefully I will know more later.

kristin said...

On another note, g'ma has diabetes. She got the little machine to test her blood. I have to go over at lunch for another lesson on how to put the strips in.

My mom called and said g'ma is beside herself trying to do this. I might not wait until lunch though. May go over earlier to ease her frustration.

Anonymous said...

OT & very random: I'm eating the most delicious pear ever. Just thought you should know :P

Lindsay said...

Hey Corinne - that's kind of what I thought about the smarts argument. I was pretty smart and my mom fed me formula back in the days before they added that DHA/ARA stuff.

Angie said...

"To which I say "FU"." LOL Lindsay, well said!

Morning Corinne!

Kristin, I'm sorry about your grandpa too.

Angie said...

Corinne, is it a soft pear or a "hard" pear? Some people like their pears nice and soft. I like mine very crisp.

Lindsay said...

I want a pear!

Kristin - you are such a good family girl. I'm sure your grandma totally appreciates you.

Lindsay said...

Thanks SW. I guess I'll be on the list now for MIL hating, too! I use that term a lot (under my breath, of course) in conversations with my MIL :) Glad you are feeling better!

Lindsay said...

Okay, off to shower and get ready for work. I'll check in later!

Anonymous said...

Kristin- Sucks about your grandma having diabetes :( My grandfather (dad's side) has it and it took him a while to figure out the glucometer too. I mean, my grandma had to explain it to him, then my father and then me. He has it down now, though. ;-)

SW- It's a soft-pear, a doyenné du Comice. It's super juicy. Not sure you have those in the US but they're the best. I don't really like hard pears. :-)

Anonymous said...

See you later, Lindsay!

kristin said...

Bye Lindsay!

kristin said...

OT - does anyone remember how to do those meat muffin thingies that were so popular on SIP?

I want to try it but don't remember how they were made.

Muliebrity said...

No real judgement on breastfeeding, promise!

Now, soy formula is something with which I have issues because of the phyto-estrogen. However, there are things that are far worse than soy formula. Like bottles containing bisphenol-A (BPA). It has been proven to cause many issues such as micro-penis, breast development in boys and early puberty in girls.

------So, IM was fed soy formula from a plastic botle?

Anonymous said...

Kristin- I don't remember. Sorry :(

Mulie - LMAO :D

Angie said...

I drink soy milk every day with my breakfast cereal. Is that bad? I thought soy milk was good for you. Am I stupid? ;-)

Angie said...

Did someone post the milk chicken recipe that AP was talking about and I missed it. I'm intrigued.

And can someone help AP figure out how to put a recipe link on the sidebar? Or are all of the computer savvy folks back at SIP? :-(

kristin said...

This day keeps getting better and better!

ugghh!

Muliebrity said...

I think soy is fine for adults, esp women of ummmm, a certain age. I'm not sure how old you are, SW, but I don't think a little on your morning cereal is going to make you have your period until you're 80 or anything.

Anonymous said...

SW- You, stupid? Then I have the IQ of a frog. :P

Seriously though, I have read the studies that go both ways about soy milk. The consensus is that it depends on the amount you drink and the rest of your diet. Too much soy can increase the risk of breast/ovarian cancer.

Anonymous said...

I posted early about the soy thing. Daughter is 9, big boobs, period and everything else that goes with it. Soy formula.

Robin in Montana said...

SW - I linked that recipe to her the other day. Did she make it and I just missed it? Let me look for it.

Kristin - The meat cups, to the best of my recollection were brown hamburger, add enough barbecue sauce to make it stick together. Line greased muffin cups with a biscuit thingy, then put the meat in and cook until the biscuit is done. Top with cheese. I know some people said they put some powdered ranch dressing mix in the hamburger, too.

Corinne - We are psychotic ... er, I mean psychic. I just bought pears at the store. I need mine to be in the middle - ripe, but not mushy.

kristin said...

SW - I'm thinking BD might know but not sure if AP has contaced BD about it.

Glad you are feeling better girl!

kristin said...

Thanks RiM!

I think that would be something LM would like!

Robin in Montana said...

SW - Here you go. The other one I posted was from a blog who had made the recipe. Here's the actual recipe from Jamie Oliver's site:

http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/chicken-recipes/chicken-in-milk

Robin in Montana said...

My cooking project for the day is trying my hand at making yogurt in the crockpot. I shall report back ...

kristin said...

If it works RiM - do share. LM is a yogurt fiend. Now that I am sending him to school with lunch, it is a staple in there.

Anonymous said...

LOL, RiM! Maybe we're psychotic too, who knows? After all, we're already low-lifes/no-lifes, jew haters, husband haters (I don't have one, but who cares? ;-) ) and Shannon's bully buddies. Why not throw psychotic in the mix? :P

Angie said...

Mulie, I'm definitely a woman of ummmm, a certain age! And that made me laugh! I'm 44.

And it's okay to use the O-word here. The only person who objected to it flounced out weeks ago!

Robin in Montana said...

Corinne - I don't have a husband, either, so I guess we'll just have to content ourselves with being man-haters. Or kittens? I don't care, either way.

Kristin - I will let you know. I did buy skim deluxe instead of whole milk, but according to those who have been making it, it should still work just fine.

SW is OLD! ::avoids eye contact and doesn't wish to discuss my upcoming birthday:::

kristin said...

I find that amusing b/c really, I think most of us don't have hubbies - you, me, AP, SW, Bella, Corinne...hmmmm....who else?

Alright, going to go help the gran'ma out and stop at the store. I'm unintentionally not going to get milk so LM and I can go to the store after work so he doesn't bitch a fit!

*see ya guys in a bit!

Anonymous said...

Kristin & RiM- I guess we are just man-haters then. LOL.
I also forgot to add that we are daisy snorters;-)

Tonight I'm trying the recipe to which Bella (I think) linked the other day; linguine with Tuna, Walnuts, Lemon, and Herbs.

Angie said...

Haha, Robin! Your time is coming, enjoy your youth while it lasts!

The chicken in milk does look good. I hope AP makes it and lets us know how it is.

Anonymous said...

See you later, Kristin!

Robin in Montana said...

I'll be 41 this month. 40 hit me like a ton of bricks, but so far this upcoming birthday is not bothering me at all. I feel good, I look good (ha - just ask *anyone! lol) and I can't change the age I am, so might as well just embrace it and move on.

Oh, in an aside, I had Kelly read RV/SD's blog entry and after he read it he was quiet for a long time and finally he said, I don't even know that guy and I feel really sorry for him and it sounds like he's in a marriage where he's made to feel like he's worthless, but that it's his fault that he's worthless. Interesting.

Robin in Montana said...

Oh, SW, let me know about the linguine recipe. I *want to like it, but I have a hard time with tuna in anything but sandwiches and only then if disguised with more onion, pickle and horseradish by ratio to the tuna.

Robin in Montana said...

Corinne on the recipe, not SW.

And if I don't quit eating my yogurt starter I'm not going to have any to make it with. Greek yogurt, plain, with honey and almonds. ::drools::

Anonymous said...

RiM- I'll let you know! I'm not a fan of tuna either but the recipe sounds really good so I wanted to try it!

The yogurt sounds great.

I do think RV must be miserable; he does not sound happy at all. But, although his post (whoever wrote it) sounded real, it crossed boundaries he shouldn't have crossed.

Anonymous said...

Ack! I just read on twitter that Mckmama was in Amsterdam. That's really close to Belgium. I feel dirty. She should not be allowed on European ground!

Anonymous said...

RIM, Bella thought you could substitute chicken for the tuna.

I think I'm going to give it a try tonight too. But I'm using chicken and may add either fresh spinach or asparagus to the mix.

Robin in Montana said...

Yeah, chicken would be good. My steaks are sounding awfully good though right now. I also bought stuff to make that sherried cream of tomato soup from PW's site. That stuff is like crack. Lord.

Robin in Montana said...

And I bought brussel sprouts in case the Schwan's man doesn't have asparagus when he shows up here today.

Anonymous said...

I have two ribeye steaks defrosting as we speak. I almost got brussel sprouts but got the asparagus instead. I'm mad now because I should have gotten snow peas.

Anonymous said...

The latest post on under1000braincells is HILARIOUS!

Robin in Montana said...

Ooohh, snow peas sound good, too.

Anonymous said...

I'm reading through the cooking section of PW's site (I'd never read before). Gosh, many recipes sound good.

Robin in Montana said...

Corinne - Part of is her photography and how good the pics make it look. I've kind of had crapshoot luck with her recipes -- loved some of them, and some have been total bombs for me. I love that soup, and there's an olive cheese bread I love, and ... hmmm, several things. But other things have been definitely ho-hum.

Robin in Montana said...

Corinne -- "Hot to Trot for the Lord." ROFL!

Anonymous said...

Corinne, the 'braincells' today made me snort.

Anonymous said...

RiM- The soup does look really good.
I think her recipes sound good but also kind of heavy, kwim?

And 'Hot Trot for the Lord' is definitely awesome! :D

Sandy- Oh. Me, too! =)

I'm off for a little while. BBL!

Anonymous said...

I agree with Corinee on PW's recipes being heavy. Maybe if you are on a working ranch burning a million calories a day, fine, I'd be as big as a house if I cooked with cream every day. lol

Later Corrine.

Anonymous said...

Corinee/Corinne. Sorry half and half on the brain.

Robin in Montana said...

Sandy - I know, the cream and the butter. My lord.

Robin in Montana said...

Sandy - since we're talking food, if you'd have bought brussels, how would you cook them? We also steam them (and then it's possible we drown them horribly in butter, ) but I'd like to try roasting them. Haven't ever done that.

Anonymous said...

I only roast them. I cut them in half and drizzle with olive oil and some kosher salt.

Robin in Montana said...

I'm going to try them that way. Cut down on the butter.

Anonymous said...

They are so good that way. That is the only way I can get anyone to eat them. I will eat them steam though.

If you try it make sure they browned a little bit. That is some goodness right there.

Robin in Montana said...

I've never met a roasted vegetable I didn't like. Artichokes are so danged expensive right now, but I want to try steaming them part way through and finish on the grill.

Anonymous said...

My husband is a very picky eater. My son is following in his footsteps. Not gonna happen on my watch. I'm taking Bella's advice and cooking a meatloaf for my husband and make different dinners for me and the kids. My husband won't try anything new and even hates soup.

Robin in Montana said...

I remember you saying that. That sucks. Kelly is pickier than my ex was, but he'll try anything. He doesn't like things like onions and cilantro. WHAT???? But he also cooks, and cooks really well, so I let the little bit of pickiness slide. :-D

Robin in Montana said...

I should amend that. He likes onions, but cooked into things, not raw, like in salads or sandwiches, burgers, etc. And he doesn't like garbanzo beans.

Anonymous said...

Mine wouldn't touch any of that with a ten foot pole. lol My 9 year old will eat cooked onions but not raw. Which is okay with me. She even likes garbanzo beans and will eat them like candy.

4 year old is picky picky.

kristin said...

I'm back!

Dropped something off at the school for LM, went to g'mas and then to the store.

Just ate some sushi, now I seriously need to work. :(

It is another gorgeous day out and I just want to be outside.

I'm starting to figure out that if I can't find Sandy to go looking in a different cyber room -- I'm not the brightest, I know...

Margo said...

Kristin, cute avatar. Is LD a badass too?

Anonymous said...

RiM- The pasta was scrumptious. Really, it was *so good and, like you, I'm usually not a fan of tuna.
If there was one thing I'd change, it's the olive oil I used. It was one with a 'stronger' taste ('Azienda Agricola Monte Olive Oil' by Oliver&co - I don't know if you can find that brand in the US. They make great olive oils) and I should probably have used more of an 'everyday' kind of oil, one with a 'lighter' taste, kwim?
It was delish, nonetheless.

Robin in Montana said...

Corinne - I will trust you and Shannon and try it. Would you mind linking the recipe again? I hope we can get a recipe sidebar up and running soon!

kristin said...

Margaret - had to figure out what LD meant - thinking Little dude?

Ummm...I don't think he's a bad ass in the sense I am thinking, nor do I think I am either.

He is pretty cool when he is not being stubborn or defiant. I like his love for marine life and animals and the outdoors. I am looking forward to camping and swimming and fishing. I need to find an organization to affiliate myself with that does that so I don't have to do it "alone".

Anyone know where Kathleen disappeared to?

kristin said...

Corinne - was it easy to make? That is my thing, I need something that is easy, not a lot of prep work - ya know?

Tonight I'm doing spaghetti. Speaking of which - anyone have a good recipe, my mom used to make homemade spaghetti and I've asked for the recipe - she says, a little of this, a jar of that, blah, blah...well I'm not a good cook, so I need exact! I'm using a can + a can of mushrooms.

Tomorrow I'm doing a roast.

Oh, and I love me some brussel sprouts too. I didn't realize there were other brussel sprout lovers out there!

Anonymous said...

ove/love, too much quiet and my brain gets mushy.

kristin said...

Is it sad that I looked at the people following (twitter) Layla Grace and compared it to McK - Layla actually has more followers.

Layla is still hanging in there. I'm hoping for a miracle!

Anonymous said...

Kristin- I do think it's pretty easy to make.

I love to cook. Seriously. I could spend hours in the kitchen.

People compared Layla Grace's story to Mck's? WTF? This two year-old girl is dying from an aggressive childhood cancer and last I checked, Stellan was perfectly healthy.
Fuck. People need a reality check.

Robin in Montana said...

Kristin - My spaghetti is always a little of this, a little of that, too, so I"m no help. But I have made the recipe from the PW site (I'll link it, I forget what cutesy name she calls it) and it is *really good, IMO. The Pastor Ryan Bolognese sauce is very good, too, and a nice way to sneak carrots in. :-D

I've used those mixes, too (like where gravy/taco mixes are) for spaghetti, and they're decent enough, too, I think. Here's the PW recipe:

http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2009/03/monday-night-dinner-pasta-alla-marlboro-man/

kristin said...

Not many Corinne - I was just saying that I looked at the numbers on twitter and saw that.

I know that AshleyGrasso was saying some harsh things - I liked her for her stance on JM but not on Layla.

Layla is a strong little girl!

Robin in Montana said...

Corinne - I agree. I know there were people who were bent out of shape over the Layla Grace mom making a radio talkshow appearance and saying she was no better than JM for using her child's illness to profit. I don't get that AT ALL from that family.

Robin in Montana said...

Here's a recipe that sounds really good, Kristin, and it says you can make it and throw it in the crockpot and let it simmer for hours.

http://thepioneerwoman.com/tasty-kitchen/recipes/main-courses/qe28099s-quick-e28098n-easy-meaty-spaghetti-sauce/

kristin said...

RiM - I agree, I don't get that from her either. I listened to the Ryan Seacrest show and she sounds like she just wants to get the info out there.

She is right around the corner from me and there are a lot of people praying for her.

That little girl is a fighter.

I will have to bookmark those links and try for later, the easier the better.

By the time we get home it is 5:30 and they eat lunch at 11:00 so any prep work is more time - then i let him have his time - dependent on mood - then bath and bedtime. I hate pushing bedtime later than 8:00.

I need to find more things to do with the crock.

Anonymous said...

RiM- I don't get that from that family, either. First off, there are no ads on Layla's site. There may be a paypal account linked but lots of people do the same on CB. I understand creating a paypal account to help with medical expenses.
Cancer treatments, morphine, zofran, etc. are beyond expensive.

This two year-old girl has fought stage IV neuroblastoma for almost half of her life. It was a fight that she wouldn't win because of the stage of the cancer.
I find it highly offensive to compare her parents (who are taking care of their *dying daughter) to someone like MCK.

Kristin- What is Ashley Grasso's twitter?

Margo said...

Oops - yes LD is little dude :)

Don't worry Sandy I won't track you down too often as flipping pages gets me confused who said what - bagoooooooo.

kristin said...

just ashleygrasso - she hasn't said anything in awhile since people started to go off on her. She is vocal about JM though :)

What's your twitter? Or if you rather not share it on the board, e-mail me - or just tell me you don't want me as a follower :)

Anonymous said...

Raising childhood cancer awareness is *very* important because little progress has been made in cancer treatments for aggressive childhood cancers (alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, neuroblastoma, JMML, brain tumors such as DIPG, medulloblastome, etc.). Plus, very little people actually know about these diseases. It's a good thing Layla's parents are doing by speaking up.

Robin in Montana said...

Hey, BD just sent me an email on Facebook asking me to let you all know she won't be around much, but that all is okay. She has a friend who has had her amniotic sac rupture and has to spend the remainder of her pregnancy in the hospital, so BD is helping out with sitting with her, helping to run errands, babysitting, whatever needs done, so she's just going to be ever so slightly busy for a little bit, but said to tell you all she'll be back ASAP!

kristin said...

RiM - thanks for letting us know!

BD - you are a good friend! Sorry to hear about your friend!

Robin in Montana said...

Kristin - I may have linked this before, and if so, I'm sorry for the repeat. But check out this blog and all her ideas for crockpot recipes. She also reviews them and says whether the kids liked them, etc. Just click on the recipe index and read down through to see if anything grabs your attention. I'd recommend a couple, but I know you have a tough time with what LM will try.

Kristin- I don't tweet, just look on the twitter site.
I have - ahem- too many addictions already and if I threw twitter in the mix...I don't want to think about it. LOL. :D

kristin said...

thanks RiM - I know you have - and what I forget to do is bookmark these pages or write them down and then I forget what thread they are in - so right now I am C&P'ing them on a word doc.

lol

kristin said...

gotcha Corinne - I started one but rarely ever used it - and know mainly just to throw things at JM!

Anonymous said...

RiM- Thanks for letting us know about BD.

Anonymous said...

You know the latest under1000braincells post I find hilarious? Well, I had to look up some of the sex positions mentioned because, aside from doggie style, I'd never heard of them. (I know, I know)

Uh. Do people really do that? (I apologize if there are any coprophiles amongst us) :P

kristin said...

Corinne - I haven't read it yet - I am probably in the same boat as you though.

Anonymous said...

Kristin- Make sure to look up 'the Tony Danza', 'Dirty Sanchez', 'Donkey Punch' and 'Cleveland steamer'.
I can't believe anyone ever came up with that.

Anonymous said...

<---- glad we have the 'adult content' warning.

kristin said...

corinne -that is just wrong - all of them! GROSS!

Anonymous said...

Kristin- Right?! I mean, you have to have some serious issues to even consider doing that. I'm not prude at all but *that is just GROSS!

kristin said...

yeah corinee - disgusting!

kristin said...

damn Sandy - you brainwashed me!

Sorry Corinne!

Anonymous said...

Kristin- No worries ;-)

OT - http://www.people.com/people/celebritybabies/gallery/0,,20346681,00.html

I feel kinda sad for Shiloh. Fist, they give her a name, though now unisex, is originally masculine. Then, they dress her like a boy. I understand parents not liking super girly outfits with giant bows and such (though I think these outfits are really cute) but Shiloh's dressed like a little boy.

Anonymous said...

Kristin, how'd I brainwash ya? LOL

kristin said...

lol...oh, I called corinne - corinee :)

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know who AshleyGrasso is? Because one of her tweets is exactly what I said yesterday:

"@mckmama Why the cord?! Did U really think that Stellan grew an extra conduction pathway overnight after his ablation? WTF?
about 6 hours ago via web "

Not that it bothers me but I just wanna know who she is because she must lurk here.

kristin said...

lol - I thought the same thing when I saw it. I thought maybe that was an alias :)

Anonymous said...

Sorry, I have mushy brain syndrome today. lol

kristin said...

anyone know any recreational therapists?

I just saw something on yahoo about jobs being outdoors and one was recreational therapist...hmmmmm....

Angie said...

Did Karen hear back on her job offer yesterday? I don't remember seeing that resolved.

Anonymous said...

SW- I don't think so but I'm not sure :s

Robin in Montana said...

What's the story with Karen's job? I thought she had just started a new one? I knew I missed a bunch!

For someone who hates company I sure have had a slew of visitors this afternoon. My old neighbor brought puzzles for the girls (an excuse for a interrogation on all the gossip in my life), the Schwan's man came, then my ex came to get a truck I traded him for, then my dad and his new wife. Ack. All of them an irritation to me. (Except my dad, if he were minus the wife.)

kristin said...

Fun RiM!

She has not started, she had an interview, drug test, background test, etc. I think she is just waiting for the call.

I dunno SW!

Robin in Montana said...

Ooohhhh! For some reason I thought she had started, since there was discussion about the no metal on the clothing and all that. I thought for sure I had seen a reference to her "first day." Ignore me, I am a doof.

Angie said...

What's up with you midwesterners and Schwan's? We don't have that down here. And don't know what it is. Other than some mysterious truck that delivers food. Frozen food, I suppose. What's the deal, Robin?

And yes, you are a doof. But a charming doof!

Angie said...

I feel like crap and I want to go home. But I refuse to leave before my secretary, because I don't want to tell her I'm leaving early. It's completely unreasonable how bugged I am by her. I am the queen of doofs.

kristin said...

SW - go home! don't let your ho-worker bug you. If you don't feel good, just go!

Angie said...

I hear ya, K, but I only have to wait 8 more minutes. Almost there! :-)

kristin said...

lol!

True! I hope you feel better!

PJ said...

Corinne,
Ashley Grasso stole your amazingly funny comment? She owes you a user fee.

kristin said...

alright ladies. I'm out!

Let's hope I get the good one today!

Lisa said...

Am back. Came home and fell asleep...ugh.
SW, go rest tonight and take it easy so you get to feeling better. Kristin, how are you doing?

Robin, thanks for letting us know about BD.

I haven't made the milk chicken yet. I feel like crap and don't feel like cooking. I think we're doing canned soup and soft things tonight.

We have Schwan's here and I've tried a couple of things. They're fine but overpriced compared to our grocery stores. If one doesn't have easy access to good grocery stores, they'd be handy and I'd use them more.

I am in *such a foul mood.

PJ said...

AP - I'm not caught up - who's fouling your mood?

Muliebrity said...

AP - How can I cheer you up?

Lisa said...

Awww, y'all are so sweet and it's not anyone in particular. It's just that I feel so obnoxiously icky and worn out that it's making me bitchy. If I snap at anyone, I'm sorry. I don't even mind being sick - it's that dog-tired, too much of an effort to walk from room to room feeling I hate.

Lisa said...

Oh, and how I woke up from my nap? My dumbfuck son is sitting 3 feet from me with an electric bass and an amp, totally oblivious to anyone but himself, and belts out with the theme song from Jeopardy. When I shot 3 feet up and came down cussing, he looks all confused and says, "I"m sorry...am I bothering you?"

PJ said...

Ooooh - Jake is in the doghouse, huh?

PJ said...

Gotta get home - BBL.

I'll be dog-tired right along with you AP.

kristin said...

AP - I am sorry! I'd hug you but 1- SW might get jealous and 2 - I don't think you are the huggie type (I'm not really either).

I'm tired and throat is sore but I have good son, even though he was in timeout and a pistol when I got there, he quickly snapped out of it.

Let me know if you need to bitch and moan - you know where to find me.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Howdy all.

I just got home and thought I'd check in while I had a free moment; thanks, RiM, for posting that for me.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

I would hug you, AP. But I'll hug just about anyone who practices decent hygiene.

Speaking of which, does any one know of a good brand of dry shampoo?

kristin said...

can't say that I do BD!

btw - you are a good friend!

kristin said...

LM is trying to get cheetos out of a small bag with oven mits! lol!

Muliebrity said...

AP - My just barely 4 year old just told me he was going to call the police and they were going to take me to jail and I was not going to be his momma any more. Why? "Because you won't turn on McJr."

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Thank you, Kristin.

Pregnancy bedrest sucks. I was on bedrest for 14 weeks while pregnant with M., but at least I got to be home. She's looking (hopefully) at 5 weeks or longer, but the doctors feel that is unlikely.

Muliebrity said...

McJr is actually NickJr, but don't try and tell him that.

kristin said...

Awesome mulie!

My little one just "made" Cheetos. He dumped all the cheetos in a pan and cooked them!

Jennifer-Lynn said...

AP:

Your son and my daughter should have a meeting of the minds. :)

Anonymous said...

Corinne, I'm glad you liked the tuna pasta. Did Shannon try it, too?

Just popping on to say hi :)

So, Hi!

kristin said...

Hey Bella!

Hiya Taiya!

Finishing up dinner!

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Mr. BD is making muffalettas for dinner. Give me cured meats and green olive salad and I'm a happy girl.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Did I kill it?

Lisa said...

CK, I'm not too mad at him- it's hard to get too mad at stupid. ;-) Get some rest yourself...you sick, too?

BD, a company called Batiste makes a decent dry shampoo and it's not overly expensive. Google it and you can find places online to get it or a Sally might carry it. Another thing that works even better but is a bit more complicated is a deal called "No-Rinse". You use it inside a cap thing but it actually seems to clean some instead of freshening.
http://www.drugstore.com/templates/brand/default.asp?brand=8986&aid=336064&aparam=no%20rinse%20shampoo&scinit1=no%20rinse%20shampoo

Mulie, if you go to jail, we'll bail you out.
And thanks, Kristin!

kristin said...

Nope, I'm sitting down to eat. Sorry!

Lisa said...

Hey, Bella...how are you doing these days? Still loving the new job? And did you ever paint that bedroom?

Margo said...

Hi ladies. I just had a douchetastic idea, what if NPC sees the masai dancing around with their dorks out and he has a small dork meltdown. Now THAT would be blogworthy!

Anonymous said...

Bella, I made the pasta today and it was awesome. I made it with chicken and tossed in a little spinach. Awesome. My pasta, noodle, rice, chicken hating husband even loved it. Yes I said HE loved it.

Margo said...

He loved your pasta but is the remote going to be wedged in his butt cheeks tonight?

kristin said...

Way to go Sandy! Woo hoo!

kristin said...

Margaret - that made me giggle! :)

Anonymous said...

Oh if Mr. Lardo does that again so help me Jesus! LOL

Shannon said...

Ugh after let's see about 6 hours of working on math...I have managed to have a break down and was ready to drop out of college...however I put my big girl panties on and refreshed a lot of stuff in my brain. I still will have to do the test later but didnt want to put myself right back into that place again.

Anonymous said...

AP, I'm doing well. I'm in what I like to call the "doldrums" right now. It's the time of year where everything is joyless to me: no holidays, no vacations, no nice weather. Just wake up, brave the cold, come home, eat, bedtime. Repeat for a couple months.

I did *not paint that bedroom yet. I think I am waiting until spring, when I can get some fresh air in the house. Work is still great, made even greater by the fact that I am just working.

Sandy, I am so glad you husband liked it!!! Baby steps, baby steps!

Anonymous said...

Bella, he doesn't like spinach either, lol.

Anonymous said...

So, did the aliens change out your husband for one who does, lol?

Anonymous said...

No, you just don't tell them what's in it. He said what's the 'green stuff'. I said oh just some torn up basil and parsley! ROFL

Pineapple Chili mama probably never made spinach for him to try.

Muliebrity said...

Bella, I hear you on the "doldrums", but we had a beautiful, almost warm, day here. It felt wonderful and was good for my soul!

PJ said...

Hi all!

Kristin - when I first read your post about picking LM up, I thought it said he "had" a pistol.

That'll get him kicked out of daycare faster than not mastering pottytraining.

AP,
Not sick, just stressed. Too much to do, and not even time to mentally and emotionally recuperate.

PJ said...

even = enough

PJ said...

Mulie - we had something in the 40's. Sunny too - there is hope for spring.

Anonymous said...

Mulie, it was sad. I was overjoyed by the setting sun tonight driving home from work. It was just nice to see it!

I think we are going to take a trip up to the Chicago Botanical Gardens this weekend. They have huge tropical greenhouses there; I think the warmth will do us good.

Anonymous said...

I'm off. Blackhawks are playing. Goodnight!

Muliebrity said...

Bella, That sounds great! I am taking the boys to Atlanta in a few weeks and hope to see them a few weeks ahead of this Midwest slop.

Jennifer-Lynn said...
